Kalama Sutta Part I

Bhante Gunaratana

When asked by the Kalama people the best way to determine right and wrong, the Buddha advises not to follow tradition, one’s own inclinations, pure reason or reports but to observe the results of holding a particular belief. One should use appropriate attention to test a belief and, further, one should inquire about the belief with those one considers wise.
