"Now this, monks, is the noble truth of suffering: birth is suffering, aging is suffering, illness is suffering, death is suffering; union with what is displeasing is suffering; seperation from what is pleasing is suffering… in brief, the five aggregates subject to clinging are suffering.”
~ The Buddha

What does Beginner mean?

Teacher: Bhante Dhammaratana

These retreats are for those new to meditation or who want to learn about meditation. There will be instruction and assistance with sitting and walking meditation and a brief introduction to Buddhism. The schedule is less rigorous, and guided meditations will be given.

People of all faiths are welcome to come to any of our retreats.  You should be aware, though, that the Bhavana Society is a Buddhist Monastery and you may see customs and traditions you are not familiar with.  Feel free to ask questions.  We want you to feel comfortable here.  We only ask that you behave in a respectful manner.

Note: First time people should be at Bhavana by 4:30 p.m. on the first day of the retreat. Everyone else should be here by 5:00 p.m.. All retreats end after lunch on the last day.
Although every retreat is slightly different here is a typical retreat daily schedule.
