"This is the entire spiritual life, Ananda, that is, good friendship, good companionship, good comradeship. When a monk has a good friend, a good companion, a good comrade, it is to be expected that he will develop and cultivate the Noble Eightfold Path.”

Kathina Celebration a Great Success

News from Kathina

On October 8, 2006 The Bhavana Society held its annual Kathina celebration.  Despite threatening weather, the turn out was larger than usual.  There were monks from the Washington D.C. area as well as Ajahn Vitoon visiting from Thailand.

The kathina robe cloth was donated this year by Ms. Kimberly Ming of New Mexico.  Her family and friends also were there to join in the giving.  This was the second year that the Bhavana monastics made the kathina robe from scratch in the manner prescribed by the Buddha.  To see photos of the day’s events, go to the photo gallery.

While the monastics began with the sewing, Bhante Gunaratana gave a talk to the lay people in the meditation hall.  You can listen to it from our website.

We all want to extend our gratitude to Ms. Kimberly Ming for the robe cloth offering as well as to Sumitra Ekanayake and Ruwani Mirihella for coordinating the meal offering.
