"Now this, monks, is the noble truth of suffering: birth is suffering, aging is suffering, illness is suffering, death is suffering; union with what is displeasing is suffering; seperation from what is pleasing is suffering… in brief, the five aggregates subject to clinging are suffering.”

How to Get Here

The Bhavana Society is located in the eastern foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in rural West Virginia. The nearest city is Winchester, Virginia. We are about two hours west of downtown Washington, D.C.; six hours southwest of New York City; and four hours southeast of Pittsburgh. There is no bus service nearby; people traveling by air are advised to rent a car or taxi at Washington Dulles Airport.

You may use an on-line map service to get directions to High View, WV or Winchester, VA, but you MUST use the directions here to travel the final miles. On-line map services will not give you accurate directions all the way to Bhavana. Without our directions, we can be difficult to find.
